In a delightful piece of news for all the cricket fans, the former Indian skipper and the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli and his wife Anuska Sharma became parents to a newborn baby boy, Akaay. The couple shared the news from their respective official Instagram handles.

“With abundant happiness and our hearts all of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika's little brother into this world! We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time. We request you to respect our privacy at this time kindly,” read the Instagram post shared by Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli from their Instagram handles.

However, the big question that arises now is about the citizenship of a celebrity couple’s newborn baby. The question is arising because the baby boy was born in London, UK; so, the question around his citizenship by birth is getting quite big.

“Children and his/her parents can also apply for British citizenship if; the children were born in the UK, or their parents became British first,” reads the instructions from the British Government according to the citizensadvice.org.uk.

Here’s a look at the rules on by-birth citizenship

Apart from that, the British government has also an official stance on the citizenship of an individual in Britain in case of his birth in the UK.

“You do not automatically get British citizenship if you were born in the UK. It depends on when you were born and your parents’ circumstances. You may be eligible to apply for citizenship if you were born in the UK and are not automatically a British citizen,” said the guidance from the British government according to their official website.

So now, it depends on Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli if they apply for their new-born baby’s British citizenship or if the couple goes for dual citizenship of both Britain and India to make the ways of British citizenship easy for their new-born baby boy ‘Akaay’.
