“I have no doubt Indian can lift the trophy” - Virender Sehwag confident of India winning Asia Cup 2025

Former legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag has backed the Indian T20I team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, to win the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 9, in the United Arab Emirates.

The eight-team continental affair will have India, Pakistan, the UAE, and Oman in Group A, while Group B has teams, namely Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong, which concludes on September 28.

Speaking to Sony Sports Network, Sehwag asserted that the Indian team selected by the national committee has the right mix of youth and experience. Moreover, he felt that under Suryakumar’s fearless leadership, India would dominate Asia once again. Notably, India has won a record eight titles so far in Asia Cup history.

"This Indian team has the right mix of youth and experience, and under Surya's fearless leadership, they can dominate Asia once again. His attacking mindset suits the T20 format perfectly, and if the team plays with the same intent, I have no doubt India can lift the trophy," Sehwag said on Sony Sports Network.

"This campaign beautifully brings alive the heartbeat of Indian cricket. No matter which part of the country you belong to, when India plays, emotions unite us. I could feel that same passion in the film, and it's this connection that makes cricket so powerful,” he added.

Suryakumar will lead a 15-member Indian squad in the Asia Cup with Test skipper Shubman Gill being his deputy. All the matches will be held in two venues- Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
