Virender Sehwag wants Vaibhav Suryavanshi to aim to bat all 20 overs

Former Indian cricketer, widely recognized as one of the most formidable batters in cricket, Virender Sehwag, shared a distinctive piece of advice with the young Vaibhav Suryavanshi following the Rajasthan Royals' face-off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025.

RR unexpectedly lost the match by 11 runs, a game that seemed to be under their control until the 18th over. Fortunately for RCB, this marked their first home-ground win at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged 14, renowned for his dynamic batting, debuted in the IPL against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a six on his very first ball. He made his mark in cricket by striking a 20-ball 34 against LSG, including two boundaries and three massive sixes.

He maintained his six-hitting prowess against RCB, this time targeting seasoned bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, smashing two sixes before being bowled out.

Virender Sehwag gives sane advice to young Vaibhav Suryavanshi

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Sehwag advised the budding cricketer to remain humble and focused on the game. He referenced multiple instances where players lost their grip after just one or two matches.

"If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player," said Sehwag.

The former cricketer also stated that Suryavanshi should aim to have a 20-year-long IPL career, much like Virat Kohli. At such a young age, if he maintains his fitness and consistency, he has the potential to break numerous records in the years ahead.

With an impressive display of talent in his first two matches, Suryavanshi has already shown great promise, and his future success will hinge on how he progresses from here.

"Suryavanshi must aim to play 20 years in the IPL. Look at Virat Kohli, he started playing when he was 19 years old, now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate. But, if he is happy with this IPL, thinking that he is now a crorepati, had a great debut, hit a six off the first ball, maybe we won't see him next year," added Sehwag.

Rajasthan Royals will now be seen in action against Gujarat Titans on April 28 at their home gorund in Jaipur.
