Former Pakistan pacer and commentator Waqar Younis has heaped praise on the Indian batting depth after the team’s 61-run win over their arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, February 15, in Colombo.
Speaking on JioStar, Younis asserted that a player like Yashasvi Jaiswal being left out of the Indian T20I team speaks about the team’s batting depth, adding that he would love to watch the batter in this particular format in the near future.
“What’s great is the quality of some of the guys they left out. Someone like Yashasvi Jaiswal, I really like his batting. And will want to see him come in and bat some day. But overall it’s a very strong team and there's the bench and others outside,” Waqar Younis said on JioStar.
Furthermore, the former pacer slammed the Pakistani skipper, Salman Ali Agha, for not putting pressure on the Indian batters after dismissing Abhishek Sharma for a four-ball duck early in the first over. He also questioned Agha for holding Usman Tariq until the death overs to complete his full quota of overs.
“While batting needs to be aggressive at all times in T20, bowling is different. You need to stay consistent and disciplined. They thought they had the early advantage with dismissing Abhishek Sharma for a duck, and bowled as if the job was done. The captain allowed Ishan Kishan to score, and the spinners did not stay disciplined at all. We have been speaking about Usman Tariq for two weeks now, and he bowled well. But Salman held him back and didn’t bring him on earlier. The Indian batsmen took advantage of that indiscipline,” he added.
Delving into the details of the game, India posted an above-par total of 175/7 on a tricky wicket. Ishan Kishan was the wrecker-in-chief with a 77-run knock off 40 balls. In the second innings, Pakistan got bundled out for 114 runs in 18 overs, losing the game by 61 runs.
