Former legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram has opened up on the cricketing fraternity, comparing him to the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, which turned out to be a never-ending debate in modern-day cricket.
Speaking exclusively on Geo TV’s Haarna Mana Hai show, Wasim asserted that comparisons between the 90s and modern-day players are impossible, adding that Bumrah has an odd action and pace. However, he stated that neither he nor Bumrah cares about the comparison.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a wonderful bowler. He has an odd action, has pace, and credit to the Indian cricket board for the way they manage him and their mindset. Comparisons between the 90s and now are impossible. He is right-handed and I am a left-armer. We keep social media debates—Begano ki Shadi Me Abdulla Diwana. Neither I care nor he cares. They are fighting among themselves. He is a modern-day great. I was in my era. I did my job. He is a very impressive bowler, I must say,” said Akram on GEOTV’s Haarna Mana Hai show.
On the other hand, the former Indian pacer Varun Aaron has also opened up on the comparison, stating that Bumrah is pretty much in the same line as what Akram has achieved in the SENA countries.
“Calling him a genius would be an understatement. He has now gone past Wasim Akram in terms of wickets taken in SENA countries. That says it all for me because Wasim was arguably the best fast bowler to walk the face of the earth—and Bumrah is pretty much the same, if not better,” former Indian cricketer Varun Aaron chipped in on the same show.
While Bumrah recently took part in three out of five Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England away from home, he will be next seen playing the Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the United Arab Emirates.
