In the third one-day international at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir was ecstatic as his players prevented Australia from winning their first series.

Gambhir commended seamer Harshit Rana's time with the ball to set up India's chase, as well as mainstays Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their uninterrupted 168-run partnership.

Despite Matt Renshaw's 56, Harshit Rana's 4/39 helped India knock Australia out for 236 runs. After a 69-run opening partnership, India lost Shubman Gill for 24. However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored 168* runs to assist India cross the finish line.

Rohit Sharma reached his 33rd century in ODIs, scoring 121* with 13 fours and 3 sixes, while Virat Kohli scored 74* with 7 fours.

Rohit and Virat finished it off, it was the most important thing: Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir commended Rohit and Kohli for their maturity in managing the chase in a dressing room video that the BCCI posted on social media. In the changing room, Rohit received the "Impact Player of the Match" medal from the team's S&C coach, Adrian Le Roux.

With the bat, I thought the partnership between Shubman and Rohit was very, very important when it was 60 for no loss. And then the partnership between Rohit and Virat was again outstanding. And special mention to another 100 [century], outstanding. The most important thing was that you finished it off, and Virat as well," Gambhir said in a video shared by the BCCI.

Gambhir expressed his delight at the fact that both Rohit and Kohli finished off the chase while remaining unbeaten.

He said: "I thought that is something which was very important from the team's point of view as well, and how clinical we can be in these chases, and we were very good."
