Speaking of the action of the match, India were asked to bat first by Aussie skipper Pat Cummins after winning the toss. Batting first, India could post an average total of 240 runs, losing all wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 47 runs off 31 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes followed by Virat Kohli’s 54-run knock and 66 runs scored by KL Rahul.

The veteran pacer Mitchell Starc scalped three wickets for Australia, alongside two wickets each picked by Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. Apart from this, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa also bagged one wicket each.

While chasing the target, Australia faced some early blows as they lost 3 wickets just at the score of 47 runs; however, they recovered on the back of Travis Head’s sensational century (137 runs) and he also stitched a 192-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne helped Australia to win the match by 6 wickets and clinch their sixth ODI World Cup title.

Travis Head won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-winning century in Australia’s favour.
