Virat Kohli mocks Australian fans

Virat Kohli, who was leading the Indian cricket team on Day 3 of the New Year Test in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, caught the limelight with his gestures in the morning session after the team came out to field in the final innings.

Kohli, who was riled up by the Australian crowd, mocked them with the sandpaper gesture. He displayed his empty pockets to the Australian fans, indicating there was no sandpaper in his pockets, the gesture which went viral on the internet.

For the unversed, three Aussie players Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft were involved in a controversial sandpaper gate during Australia’s tour of South Africa in 2018.

While Smith and Warner received a one-year ban from Cricket Australia, Bancroft was suspended for nine months from the game of cricket.

Australia bag a comfortable win to seal series 3-1

Moving into the details of the SCG Test, Team India batters could add only 16 runs to the overnight score, getting bundled out for 157 runs on Day 3. Australia were given a target of 162 runs. Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t available to bowl for India due to a back spasm.

Though the pitch was doing favors for bowlers, Indian pacers failed to create an impact as Usman Khawaja (41), Travis Head (34*) and Beau Webster (39*) steered their side to a six-wicket win in 27 overs.

With this victory, Australia have sealed their spot in the WTC Final and they will clash against South Africa in the title clash later this year at the home of cricket, Lord’s.

Notably, South Africa had already qualified for the WTC Final after their two-wicket win against Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test in Centurion. Unfortunately, India had to bow out of the contention after losing the Sydney Test.
