WCL 2025: AB de Villiers propels South Africa Champions to title victory

In the second season of the World Champions of Legends (WCL), South Africa Champions, led by AB de Villiers, lifted the silverware after defeating Pakistan Champions by nine wickets in a comfortable victory in the grand finale on Saturday, August 2.

Moving into the details of the game, Pakistan Champions batted first and posted an imposing total of 195/5 in 20 overs, courtesy of Sharjeel Khan's 76-run knock and Umar Amin's 36-run unbeaten knock off 19 balls.

The chase was more one-sided as AB de Villiers smacked a 60-ball 120-run unbeaten knock with 12 fours and seven sixes to take his side over the line in 16.5 overs. JP Duminy also played an important role with 50* off 28 balls with four fours and two sixes.

After the conclusion of the season, AB de Villiers was elated to have won the silverware after the squad sustained multiple injuries throughout the tournament. Notably, he won the Player of the Match in the final and moreover, the Player of the Tournament award.

"Quite a few injuries. It started with a hamstring, then a side strain and yesterday morning I pulled my back while brushing my teeth. Congratulations to the whole squad. It wasn't like a World Cup, but we gave it our heart and won it. The boys were motivated. We played a hard game in the semifinal. I came here to play for my kids. I have been playing with my kids in the backyard. They wanted me to play. I enjoyed it a lot. My family was here, and it made it more special,” AB de Villiers said after winning the POTM and POTT awards.

"It was a great way we started the tournament, but today wasn't the day for us. Congrats to South Africa. A special knock by a special man. Happy for AB de Villiers. The only way they could have chased it down was if he (ABD) scored a century and he did. Our bowling didn't click today,” Pakistan Champions captain, Mohammad Hafeez said.
