Former Team India batter Murali Vijay has opened up about former captain MS Dhoni. Speaking on Taruwar Kohli’s YouTube channel, Vijay praised his former skipper and called Dhoni a “natural and very unique” leader.

“Dhoni is natural and very unique. Those personalities you cannot replicate. Anybody cannot come and do what he is doing. The way he has dominated and taken the game, he was a very strong person. The way he launched those sixes, I don’t think anyone else got that range as a right hander. He gave that last over to Joginder and we won it. There may not have been logic as Harbhajan had an over as a senior. But it won us the cup as he did something out of the box. We all should be proud that he was born in our country,” he said.

Notably, Vijay played eight IPL seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), all under Dhoni’s captaincy. Overall, he played 106 IPL matches, scoring 2619 runs, including 13 fifties and two centuries. Apart from CSK, he also represented Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2014 and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2015 and 2016.

MS Dhoni has been retained by CSK for the IPL 2026

Meanwhile, Dhoni is still playing in the IPL and, in the upcoming 2026 season, he will be in action again for CSK. The franchise retained the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, ending all speculation about whether he would continue. In an exclusive chat with Cricbuzz earlier, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that Dhoni himself informed the team management about his wish to play in the upcoming season.

For the last few years, MS Dhoni and CSK fans have always been worried that the moment may be near when the legend could retire completely. But as everyone moves towards the 2026 IPL season, Dhoni will be in action again, though all eyes will be on his fitness and how well he can manage his body to be available for the whole tournament.

The IPL mini-auction is set to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi, as all teams look to add their missing pieces to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
