On Sunday, India is set to play their first match of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai. This is the first time that any one country has hosted the World Cup since England in 1975-83. India is the favourite to win this year’s marquee tournament. The Men in Blue have been in sensational form after winning the Asia Cup, they won the three-match ODI series against the mighty Aussies. The Kangaroos are the side nobody can take off when it comes to the World Cup, that is why the team is the most successful side winning the tournament five times.
Two teams would like to start their World Cup campaign with a win, to get their momentum going. Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins is set to lead his side for the first time in the World Cup, he will be under a lot of pressure as the fans have high expectations from this side.
The Chennai pitch will offer an equal advantage to the batters and the bowlers in the first inning. As the game further progresses it will be difficult to score runs on this pitch as it will slow down a bit. In ODIs held at this venue, the average first-innings score hovers around 224 while the second-innings score goes about 205.
