West Indies Test squad named for Australia series; Shai Hope returns

The Cricket West Indies selection committee has recalled Shai Hope as he has been named in their 16-man squad for the three-match series against Australia, starting on Wednesday, June 25 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados.

Shai Hope, who has been captaining the national team in white-ball formats, could play his first Test since 2021. On the other hand, Guyanese batter Kevlon Anderson is also likely to make his international debut after he was included in the squad, courtesy of an impressive domestic season.

"I'm excited about the inclusion of young prospect Kevlon Anderson, who comes in after solid seasons in our domestic competitions to help provide stability in the top order, while the return of Shai Hope is welcomed given his consistency in white ball cricket," said West Indies coach Daren Sammy.

Notably, Hope has accumulated 1726 runs from 38 Tests, racking up two centuries and five fifties. Interestingly, veteran pacer Kemar Roach has been axed from the squad while Shamar Joseph has been included, thanks to his heroics against Australia last year.
