BCCI's 10-point disciplinary guidelines

In an unprecedented move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a 10-point guideline for Team India’s contracted players in a bid to promote discipline, unity and a positive team environment.

The move has been made in the light of poor results in Test series against New Zealand and Australia. The guidelines have also come with a warning that ‘non-compliance’ could result in disciplinary action, exclusion from domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League and deductions from central contract retainers.

The document titled - Policy Document for Team India - was sent to the players on Thursday (January 16). Let us have a look at the 10-point disciplinary guideline

1. BCCI has made it mandatory for the players to participate in the domestic cricket matches. Any exceptions will be considered only under extraordinary circumstances and will need approval from the Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar.

2. All players are expected to travel with the team for the matches and practice sessions. Cricketers will not be allowed to travel separately with their families and any exceptions must be approved by the head coach and chairman of selectors.

3. Players are required to adhere to specified baggage limits while travelling. Any excess baggage costs will need to be borne by the players.

4. Personal staff will be restricted on tours or series unless explicitly approved by the BCCI.

5. Players must coordinate with team management regarding equipment and personal items being sent to the Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru

6. All players are required to stay for the entire duration of practice sessions and leave together with the entire team. No player will leave the practice session early.

7. Players are not permitted to engage in personal shoots or endorsements during a series or tour.

8. Family Travel policy is introduced in which the family of players will be allowed on foreign tours of 45 days for only 14 days.

9. Players are required to be available for BCCI’s official photo shoots, promotional activities and functions.

10. If matches or series end earlier than scheduled, the players are required to stay with the team until the scheduled end of the series or tour.
