In addition to playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), former India captain MS Dhoni is also a member of the Indian Army's Territorial Army, where he holds the rank of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel. In addition to playing cricket, he received specialised training for the Para Forces of the Indian Army.
Along with Abhinav Bindra and Deepak Rao, he was awarded the title in 2011, the year that India won the World Cup while he was captain. The former Indian captain commanded the unit of the 106 Territorial Army. Dhoni completed both basic and specialised parachute training with the Para Forces in 2015. He was incorporated into the Para Regiment following this training.
In the army, a lieutenant colonel's monthly salary ranges from Rs 1.21 lakh to Rs 2.12 lakh. Dhoni has an honorary role, but his pay could have been as high as Rs 2.12 lakh. The sum hasn't been officially announced yet, though. It may be a scenario that he does not draw any salary from it, since it is an honorary position.
After the army and paramilitary forces, the territorial army is typically called into battle last. If an order is issued to call up the territorial army to battle, MS Dhoni may be asked to join. According to Part I of the Defence Services Regulations, the Territorial Army is an essential component of the Indian Army. The Indian Army's reserve force is the Territorial Army, which supports it in times of necessity, particularly during national emergencies or times of war.
Dhoni spent 15 days in 2019 serving with the Territorial Army's battalion in Jammu and Kashmir, where he carried out post-duty, patrolling, and guarding responsibilities. While serving in the South Kashmir region, he was enrolled in the Victor Force in the Kashmir Valley. Dhoni became a qualified paratrooper in 2015 after completing five parachute jumps during his training at the Agra camp.
He continues to be an enigmatic but charming personality on and off the field, which makes everyone around him a fan of him and his game.
