The 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have till Sunday, November 26 to declare their list of retained and released players. On the same day, the trade window also closes. Following the announcement of their retention list, teams must begin their strategies and start preparing for the auction, which will take place on December 19 in Dubai. Some of the big names have been traded. Devdutt Paddikal has joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from Rajasthan Royals (RR) in exchange for Avesh Khan.
All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed was traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Mayank Dagar went from SRH to RCB. There have been speculations that the Gujarat Titans (GT) captain is all set to join Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the auction and Jofra Archer is the player to be traded.
Kolkata Knight Riders have also released their star all-rounder Shardul Thakur. They have also added Gautam Gambhir to their squad as a mentor. Each team will be given an amount of 100 crore to build their squad for the 2024 season. This is a 5 crore increase over the previous season's purse of 95 crore.
IPL retention show: Where to watch?
Defending IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a settled and strong squad. They have released Ben Stokes, Dwaine Pretorius, Sisanda Magala, and Ambati Rayudu who has now retired from cricket. Joe Root, the England and Rajasthan Royals batter, has withdrawn from the IPL 2024 auction. Root played only three matches after being costed for INR 1 crore in the 2023 auction. Delhi Capitals have retained their opener Prithvi Shaw for the 2024 season.
Star Sports is set to telecast a special show on IPL 2024 retention. The live program will be telecast on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 1 Hindi from 4 PM to 6 PM IST. As per the reports, the live streaming will also be shown in Jio Cinema for the OTT.
