The IPL has had immense success, breaking all records for viewership and popularity over the years. It has become a cash-rich league now and has been rewarding the same to their players as well. Over the years, the player to draw the maximum amount of money from the tournament has been the joint-most successful captain of the league, Rohit Sharma.

He has played over 257 matches in the league, scoring over 6628 runs with 2 centuries and 43 half-centuries. He has also won six trophies as a player and five as captain, joint-most for both.

Making his debut right in the inaugural season, he has been a core part of the league. He has not missed even a single edition of the tournament and progressed from a young promising talent to the most successful captain of the league, winning as many as five trophies as skipper. He has garnered a total of Rs 210.9 crores over the course of 18 years as salary.

In the inaugural season, he was drafted into the Deccan Chargers for a sum of Rs 3 crores. He went on to win his first trophy there as a player and remained drawing the same salary for three seasons. That is where his heroics came into display and the drew attention of the staff of the Mumbai Indians team.

In the auction for IPL 2011, he was roped in by the Mumbai team for more than three times the salary he previously received. He kept receiving Rs 9.2 crores as salary from the Mumbai team for the next three seasons. In 2013, he was also made the skipper of the team and won the team their maiden title as well.

Being rewarded for the same, he was retained for Rs 12.5 crores for IPL 2024. His salary saw another increment in the year 2018 from where he started getting Rs 15 crores per season. From the 2022 season, there was an addition of another crore to his salary.

In the most recent auctions, Rohit was retained by the Mumbai team for a sum of Rs 16.3 crores for IPL 2025 which takes his salary over the years to a total of Rs 210.9 crores.
