Who is Vipraj Nigam? All you need to know about Delhi Capitals all-rounder

Vipraj Nigam, the leg-spin all-rounder, made news for himself in the Indian Premier League 2025 as he made his Delhi Capitals (DC) debut on Monday against the Lucknow Super Giants (DC). The 20-year-old from Uttar Pradesh sold for Rs. 50 lakhs at the major auction in Jeddah last year.

Nigam, a leg spinner, took one wicket for DC in his debut outing, taking out the dangerous-looking Aiden Markram for just 15 runs. Despite this, LSG scored 209/8 in 20 overs. All of this was made possible by David Miller's 27* in the last overs and the half-centuries of Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh.

At one point, DC was down to 7/3 and 113/6, which was a very bad start to their chase. After that, Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam joined him, and the two of them hammered the LSG bowlers, scoring 55 runs in 22 balls to put DC back in the game.

In just 15 balls, Nigam struck 39 runs with five fours and two sixes, demonstrating his clean batting. This gave Ashutosh the opportunity to launch a vicious attack in the final three overs to win the match for DC by just one wicket.

Here is all to know about Vipraj Nigam, the new DC sensation.

Uttar Pradesh leg spinner Vipraj Nigam gained notoriety for his remarkable performance in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, taking eight wickets in seven games. He displayed his batting prowess in a match against Andhra Pradesh by scoring 27 runs off of just eight balls.

His domestic career took off once he made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in all formats. During the 2024–25 season, he participated in three first-class games, five List-A games, and seven Twenty20 matches, collecting 103 runs and claiming nine wickets.

The youthful all-rounder then made his debut in the UPT-20 2024 season, playing 12 games for the UP Falcons and taking 20 wickets at a strike rate of 11.15 and an economy rate of 7.45.

"Vipraj was a batter until his under-19 days. Then, gradually, he started bowling leg-spin. He has a deep understanding of his batting. I have seen him play good strokes—he has always been fearless and doesn’t hesitate to go for big shots. He has been working hard on his bowling and is turning the ball well. He is a highly talented player. He performed exceptionally well in the UP Premier League and later went on to play in the Ranji Trophy, where he also bowled impressively," Kuldeep Yadav said on Vipraj post-match.
