Who Said What? What did MS Dhoni & Sanju Samson say after CSK vs RR, Match 62?

Rajasthan Royals bagged a six-wicket win over the Chennai Super Kings in the 62nd match of the IPL 2025 season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 20.

Moving into the details of the game, RR won the toss and tasked CSK to bat first. CSK could post 187/8 in 20 overs, thanks to Ayush Mhatre (43), Dewald Brevis (42) and Shivam Dube (39). Akash Madhwal (3) and Yudhvir Singh (3) were exceptional for RR.

In the chase, Royals took only 17.1 overs to finish off the game with six wickets in hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal (36), Vaibhav Suryavanshi (57), Sanju Samson (41) and Dhruv Jurel (31*) were exceptional in the chase.

Without any further ado, let’s take a look at what MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson said after CSK vs RR, Match 62.

RR captain Sanju Samson

“It feels good. To be honest, we were thinking we should bat first and set a score. I decided not to hide in this game. Decided to chase and face it. We have a very young bowling lineup. We are missing Jofra and Sandeep. But the kind of temperament and planning shown by the young bowlers was heartening to see. They have a bright future. They are very young and promising. There has been a lot of work going on.

He (Akash Madhwal) has played only four games. Shane Bond has been working closely with him. Rahul sir and others have seen how hard he has worked. We are all happy for him. The way people are looking at powerplay there is not much difference in the quality of teams. The margin of error in winning and losing is so less. We have to sit back and do a proper review. Definitely we could have done better. It is not about luck.

We have made some mistakes. We should come back with a better mindset in the next season. I don't have words for Vaibhav. The hundred he got was sheer class. He can hit a slower ball over cover. Today when the middle overs were going on, he was going with his job very smartly. He has game awareness at such a young age which is commendable.”

CSK captain MS Dhoni

“If you look at the amount of runs we had put on the board, it was very good, but you got to see the wickets column as it puts pressure on the lower-middle order that you might not bat 20 overs. I think Brevis' innings was very nice, he was taking chances and I feel run-rate was nice, that's the phase we want to improve slightly.

I felt the run-rate was up but where we lacked was losing 1-2 extra wickets. He (Kamboj) is someone who doesn't get swing, but he gets some seam movement, the ball hits you harder than the speed gun suggests, he has taken the responsibility and he is someone who can bowl good yorkers. That's (powerplay) one area where there's a hole for us, we don't want to give away too many runs in the first six overs.

He has bowled 3 overs in the powerplay, which I feel is tougher when the ball isn't moving much and when the batsmen are well set. I think you need to look for consistency, which is hard to get when you are looking for a 200 strike-rate. The batters need to back themselves. What is important is to be the same way as your first season for all young batters. You need to get more consistent. That's going to help you to develop as a batsman going forward.”
