While the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having an indifferent season in the ongoing IPL 2025 edition, the former No.3 batter Suresh Raina has answered the biggest question: Will MS Dhoni take part in the next IPL season as a player?
Talking about CSK’s poor season, Raina stated that the franchise should come up with better planning. Moreover, he added that the CSK skipper, MS Dhoni, will continue to play one more season in 2026.
"I hope that next season, they (CSK) come with better planning. And Dhoni is going to play for one more season, for sure," Mr. IPL Suresh Raina said in a chat with Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the former CSK batter asserted that Dhoni isn’t involved much in player picks at the auction. He added that Dhoni may name four to five players he wants to be retained or picked in the auction.
"They always say MS Dhoni makes the final call. But to be very honest, I never attended any of the auctions. I was never a part of those discussions. I always talked about the players who were retained. MS might get a call about whether to go ahead with a player or not - but he's not that involved," he said.
"The core group handles the auction - you can imagine, Dhoni can't have this type of auction. He would maybe name four or five players he wants, and out of them, a few would be retained. Even if an uncapped player is working hard, look at MS Dhoni--being a 43-year-old captain, still giving everything."
Speaking about the ongoing season, CSK, under the leadership of MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad, is having a torrid time, winning two games and losing seven, picking up only four points to hold the wooden spoon.
