Will Rinku Singh join the India T20 WC squad? BCCI Secretary reveals

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia, on Friday, February 27, paid his heartfelt condolences to the Indian middle-order batter Rinku Singh and his family as the batter’s father Khanchand passed away in the early hours on Friday.

Khanchand, who worked in gas cylinder distribution and faced financial challenges, passed away due to advanced-stage liver cancer. He was admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida on February 21 and was on ventilator support.

Upon receiving his father’s news, Rinku departed Chennai at 5:00 AM on Friday to attend the final rites in New Delhi. Devajit revealed that the middle-order batter would join the squad on Saturday, February 28.

"Rinku Singh will join the team tomorrow in Kolkata," Saikia confirmed. "On behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Rinku Singh and his family," he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli and former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh took to their respective X handles to pay their condolences to the cricketer and his family during this tough phase.

“Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti. @rinkusingh235,” Kohli posted on X.

“Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family,” Harbhajan Singh tweeted.
