Gujarat Giants (GG) broke the bank in the recent Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) auction in Bengaluru last year.
The Giants spent a stunning Rs 1.70 crore on West Indian Dottin before going all out to buy India's Shaikh for a record Rs 1.90 crore, making her the most expensive purchase at the WPL Auction 2025.
The Giants, who had poor performances in past WPL seasons, increased their batting prowess with the arrivals of Shaikh and Dottin. In addition, the Giants selected England's Danielle Gibson and Prakashika Naik for base prices at the auction.
The team already has a great balance of youth and experience, and the addition of two terrific batters now gives them the much-needed steadiness in the middle.
With foreign stars, Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner, a slew of fantastic local players, and the arrival of two exceptional talents, the Giants will be a force to be reckoned with in the forthcoming WPL seasons.
Today, we will see the 3 key players for the Gujarat Giants (GG) franchise that may play a huge role in helping them win the WPL 2025 title.
Here are 3 key players for the Gujarat Giants (GG) in WPL 2025:
1. Deandra Dottin
Deandra Dottin was brought by Gujarat Giants in the inaugural WPL auction in 2023 as well but couldn’t play due to undisclosed reasons. She is one of the legends of West Indies women’s cricket. But this time, the same franchise paid INR 1.70 crores for Dottin’s services. She had good WBBL to thank for that.
She is a veteran of 138 T20Is in which she has scored 3004 runs with 2 centuries and 14 fifties. Her highest score is 112*, and she scores well over 100 runs per over strike rate. She is also a good medium pacer with 71 T20I wickets with a best of 5/5. This will be the first time Dottin will play in WPL, and expect some fireworks from her at the top.
2. Laura Wolvaardt
The South African captain Laura Wolvaardt will be another player to watch out for in WPL 2025 from Gujarat Giants. Wolvaardt scored 310 runs in 10 games over two seasons in WPL with a best of 76 against RCB. She had a strike rate of 134.19 and has made 3 fifties.
A swashbuckling batter, Wolvaardt is known for eye-catching shots and is in prime form currently. Wolvaardt is also the youngest South African, male or female, ever to score a century in international cricket. If the Giants open the innings with her and Deandra Dottin, expect some big shots and quick runs being scored by the duo and trouble for the opposition batter.
3. Harleen Deol
Harleen Deol, the Gujarat Giants all-rounder, has been a key member for the side for the last two seasons in the Women’s Premier League. Deol is an aggressive batter and a handy bowler, apart from being very good in the field. She has scored 250 runs in 11 WPL games, with a best of 67 at a strike rate of 111.11.
She has been in the Indian women’s team as well, playing 24 T20Is and 19 ODIs. She has 561 and 251 runs, respectively, usually batting in the middle order. She has one century and 4 fifties in international cricket. She is a handy bowler as well with 6 T20I wickets.
