Here are 3 key players for UP Warriorz (UPW) in WPL 2025:
1. Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma might play for Bengal in domestic cricket but be born in Uttar Pradesh, and it was kind of a shock that she was not considered for the captaincy of UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She has an excellent record for India with 1086 runs and 138 wickets in T20Is. She has an economy of 6.04 and an average of 19.14 in T20Is.
Her record in WPL is excellent as well, with 385 runs in 17 matches across two seasons. She also has 19 wickets to her name. Sharma has made 3 fifties with a best score of 88*, and the best bowling figures are 4/19. Deepti Sharma will be the most experienced Indian player in UPW, and the team will depend on her to lead the team well.
2. Tahlia McGrath
Tahlia McGrath is the lead batter of the UP Warriorz team, and with Chamari Athapaththu in the side, expect them to lead the UPW batting. Tahlia McGrath was bought for INR 1.4 crore by the UP Warriorz at the inaugural WPL auction. The 28-year-old, super-talented cricketer can bat in the top as well as middle order and hit the ball hard.
In 13 WPL matches, McGrath has 329 runs with a best of 90* against Delhi Capitals. Her strike rate is 146.22 and averages 38.50. She will lead the batting for UPW, and aside from her all-around abilities, she also brings leadership characteristics to the table and is regarded as a potential captaincy candidate for Australia.
3. Shweta Sehrawat
Shweta Sehrawat was purchased by the UP Warriorz for INR 40 lakh, four times her basic price, at the first auction. Shweta rose to prominence at the 2023 ICC Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup, where she scored the most runs in the competition with 297 from seven innings, an average of 99, and a strike rate of 139.43.
