Gujarat Giants Women will cross swords with UP Warriorz Women in the third match of WPL 2025 at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday, February 16.
Gujarat Giants, led by the Australian star all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, had an unsuccessful start to the season as they suffered a loss to the defending champions RCB Women, led by Smriti Mandhana. However, they would be aiming to get back to the winning ways as soon as possible before it gets too late.
On the other hand, Deepti Sharma’s UP Warriorz will be hoping to start their campaign on a winning note after handing the Giants successive losses. Unfortunately, in the last year, Warriorz, led by Alyssa Healy, could bag only three wins from eight games in the league phase to get eliminated.
Speaking about the head-to-head record between these two teams, Gujarat and UP met against each other on four instances in WPL history with the Giants winning one contest while the Warriorz bagged three victories.
That said, let’s take a look at three players to watch out for in the upcoming Gujarat Giants Women vs UP Warriorz Women clash.
A look at 3 players to watch out for in Gujarat Giants vs UP Warriorz match
1. Ashleigh Gardner
The Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner is one of the top players to watch out for in this contest between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. The Giants skipper was the top player for her side in the first game of the ongoing campaign, scoring 79* runs off 37 balls and scalping two wickets with the ball.
So far, she has played 17 games for the Gujarat Giants in WPL history, scoring 403 runs and scalping 19 wickets. In WBBL history, she has represented the Sydney Sixers franchise, scoring 2607 runs from 129 innings and scalping 102 wickets with the ball.
2. Chamari Athapaththu
The Sri Lankan batting all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu, the veteran, is another player to keep a keen eye on in this match. Interestingly, she has played only four WPL matches so far, all of them coming in the previous season.
In four matches for the UP Warriorz Women, she amassed 28 runs and scalped three wickets. Moreover, she was also part of the WCPL, WBBL, and Hundred Women's competitions across the globe.
3. Deandra Dottin
The Caribbean-dashing all-rounder Deandra Dottin had a decent debut in the Women’s Premier League for the Gujarat Giants Women this season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women. However, she couldn’t lead her team to victory with her performance.
On her debut against RCB Women in the WPL, she smacked 25 runs, batting in the middle-order. Furthermore, she scalped one wicket with the ball in hand. With a lot of experience in WBBL, WCPL and Hundred Women's competitions, she would be aiming to put up an exceptional performance in this WPL season.
