The third edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 will kick off on February 14, and five teams are set to put their best foot forward in the tournament.
WPL is one of the world’s most popular T20 cricket tournaments for women's cricket. This year the event will begin with the clash between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Giants at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. Following this opener, Vadodara will host the next five matches of the tournament as well.
The caravan then moves to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru which will host eight matches. After Bengaluru, the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow will host the tournament, marking the first time the venue will host matches in the WPL. The Ekana Stadium will host four matches which comprise three games of hosts - UP Warriorz.
The tournament's league stage will end in Mumbai as the city will host four matches of the group stage of WPL 2025 and also the knockouts - the Eliminator on March 13 and the high-octane final on March 15 at the CCI stadium.
The format of this year's edition of WPL will follow the same format as last season with all five teams- Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Gujarat Giants (GG), UP Warriorz (UPW) and Delhi Capitals (DC) - all clashing against each other in single headers in the group stage.
The first season, played in March 2023, saw the Mumbai Indians winning the inaugural title and the second season conducted in February - March 2024 window, resulted in the first-ever victory for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a franchise. Harmanpreet Kaur led MI to the title in the inaugural edition while RCB were led by Smriti Mandhana.
