WPL: Full list of purple cap winners from 2023 to 2025

The BCCI launched the Women's Premier League (WPL) in 2023 to advance women's cricket. With a mix of rising homegrown talent and global giants, the WPL boasts some of the biggest stars in the world.

Due to the league's high-intensity matches, record-breaking performances, and opportunity for young cricket players to star, its popularity has grown quickly.

The WPL is making women's cricket a worldwide spectacle, with teams supported by top IPL teams, crowded venues, and millions of viewers.

Amelia Kerr finished with the most wickets by an individual in a single WPL season after the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) season, which saw the Mumbai Indians win the WPL title for the second time.

Today, we take a look at all the Purple Cap winners in the history of WPL:

The first winner of the Purple Cap in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in 2023 was Mumbai Indians’ spinner Hayley Matthews. Matthews finished the inaugural WPL season with 16 wickets from 10 games at an average of 12.65 with an incredible economy of 5.94.

Her best came in the WPL 2023 final when she took 3/5 against Delhi Capitals as she ended up with two maiden overs as well out of her quota of 4 overs. She had previously also picked 3/28 in her four overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The second winner of the Purple Cap for most wickets was champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s own Shreyanka Patil. The young off-spinner proved to be the breakthrough performer in the WPL 2024 season.

Shreyanka Patil starred in the final against Delhi Capitals in a low-scoring game, taking 4/12 from her 3.3 overs. She had also picked 4 wickets earlier in the tournament, also against DC, removing Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, Alice Capsey, and Jess Jonassen.

The latest Purple Cap winner is Amelia Kerr of the Mumbai Indians. The T20I Women’s Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year in 2024, Amelia Kerr, finished WPL 2025 with 18 wickets from 10 games at an average of 15.94.

She picked a fifer in the WPL 2025 that came against the UP Warriorz team. Kerr removed Kiran Navgire, Deepti Sharma, Dinesh Vrinda, Chinelle Henry and Sophie Ecclestone to complete her five-wicket haul and kept UPW to 150/9. MI later won the match by 6 wickets.
