India Women bagged a five-wicket win over Australian Women in the second semi-final to advance to the grand finale at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, on Thursday, October 30.
Shifting our focus to the details of the game, Australia Women posted an imposing total of 338 runs in 49.5 overs after opting to bat first. Opening batter Phoebe Litchfield was the top scorer, amassing 119 runs in 93 balls with 17 fours and three sixes.
Middle-order batters Ellyse Perry (77) and Ashleigh Gardner (63) were crucial. Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma scalped two wickets apiece. Kranti Goud, Amanjot Kaur, and Radha Yadav picked up one wicket each.
In reply, the India Women lost two quick wickets for 59 runs as openers went back to the pavilion quite early. However, Jemimah Rodrigues (127*) and Harmanpreet Kaur (89) changed the game’s complexion as the former finished off things in 48.3 overs with five wickets in hand.
That said, let’s take a look at what the Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, said after the impressive win, stunning Australia Women.
“I'm absolutely very proud. I don't have words how to express myself but feeling great. This time we have passed that line which we have been working hard for so many years. It's an amazing feeling,” Harmanpreet Kaur said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Jemimah is someone who always wants to do really well for the team because she is someone who is always very calculative and wants to take the responsibility and we always have that trust on her and today was a very special knock from her. We both of us had a very good time on the pitch. Whenever we were batting, we were just complimenting each other and calculating and she was doing all the calculations there for me and I think that was something she is always in the game and I really enjoy batting with her,” she added.
“Before I go, she always keeps telling me, we've got five runs, we've got two more balls left. So before I say anything, she is already saying it to me. So I think that shows how involved she is and I was just so amazed to see what she was thinking and how she was even pushing myself. So I think we should give a lot of credit to her for the way she kept her hold and keep batting for the team,” she observed.
“Now one more game to go and today we all played well, we are really happy with the result. Now already we have started speaking about our next game. So I think that shows how focused we are and how we are keen to win this World Cup because playing in home condition is very special to us and we just want to give it to our fans, to our families who have been praying for us for so many years,” she concluded.
