Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has credited his son Yuvraj as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Punjab batter Shubman Gill as the new Indian team’s Test captain for the England tour, starting on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.
While Yograj credited Gill’s father as one of the reasons behind the cricketer becoming the Test captain, he also hailed Yuvraj Singh, who is the greatest cricketing brain in the world, as another person who played a crucial role in Gill’s elevation as captain.
"The credit for Shubman Gill's performance goes to his father and Yuvraj Singh. If Shubman Gill has become the captain today and will stay for a long time, Yuvraj Singh's guidance will play an essential role in that," Yograj Singh told ANI.
"Someone like Yuvraj Singh, the greatest cricketing brain in the world, taking Gill under his wing is a big thing," he added.
