Former Indian captain MS Dhoni will become the highest earner with more than 150 crores after the league's 14th edition. Dhoni has been leading CSK since the inception of the tournament. Dhoni's success on the ground saw him raft crores in the Indian Premier League. But there are several other cricketers who have earned more than the legendary wicket-keeper batsman.
Let us look at some of the cricketers who have drawn more salary than MS Dhoni in the previous IPL seasons:
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is currently the highest-paid player in the Indian Premier League. Since 2018, the RCB skipper has been earning two crores more than Dhoni. The 32-year-old has a cumulative income of over Rs 126 crore. Kohli is set to become the highest earner in the upcoming season once again.
Yuvraj Singh
The former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh was always a big name during the IPL auctions. He began his IPL journey with Kings XI Punjab as their marquee player. The southpaw has twice emerged as the costliest pick in the IPL auction. In 2015, Delhi Daredevils spent a whopping amount of Rs. 16 crores on the left-hand maestro but the batsman failed to perform. A year prior, RCB bought the services of the all-rounder by a considerable amount of 14 crores. However, it turned out to be a bad investment on both occasions. Dhoni earned less than Yuvraj in two consecutive seasons.
Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes made history by becoming the highest-paid overseas player when Rising Pune Supergiant bought him for Rs 14.5 crore. By receiving such an enormous bid, the England all-rounder surpassed MS Dhoni. The former RPS captain had a salary of Rs 12.5 crore which was Rs 2 crore lesser than Ben Stokes. The all-rounder didn't disappoint his buyers as he scored 316 runs and picked up 12 wickets for the RPS.
Pat Cummins
The Australian speedster is currently the highest-paid overseas player in the history of IPL auctions. Kolkata Knight Riders bought Pat Cummins for Rs 15.5 crore in IPL 2020 auction. This had made the pacer the second-highest paid player in IPL auctions and saw him earn Rs 50 lakh more than MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. As KKR has retained his services, the pacer will make more money than the two IPL skippers.
