According to reports, Manchester United are bracing for Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club again in January if the striker is unable to reclaim his place in the starting XI. Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Manchester City's 6-3 defeat. Furthermore, he has not started a Premier League game since August's 4-0 loss to Brentford.

He was eager to leave Old Trafford in the summer, and United are aware that he may look to leave in January. His links with numerous teams had emerged before the transfer window closed this season. Despite having made two appearances for United in the Europa League this season, UEFA rules allow Ronaldo to sign for a team in the Champions League in January and play in the knockout rounds in the new year.

According to reports, Ronaldo's attitude toward training and games has been exemplary since it became clear that he would have to stay past the transfer deadline. However, he is desperate to make the most of his remaining time at the top. This season, he has one goal in eight games and has fallen behind Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the ranks.

Erik ten Hag unwilling to let Cristiano Ronaldo go

Rashford returned from injury to start as the team's central striker against City. In the second half, he was replaced by Martial, who scored two late consolation goals. According to sources, Ten Hag understands Ronaldo's situation but would be hesitant to let him leave in January.

The Dutchman has already been told that there will be no money to spend until next summer, reducing the possibility of finding a replacement for the 37-year-old. Both Rashford and Martial have already missed games due to injuries this season, and Erik ten Hag is wary of running out of options during a busy season. Ronaldo's contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the season, with an option to extend until the summer of 2024.
