On Thursday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has revealed that they have released senior batsman Faf du Plessis from the squad for an upcoming ODI series. South Africa will play in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. Du Plessis has recently participated in the three-match T20I series against England. The right-handed batsman was a part of the squad.

CSA has decided to rest the former South Africa skipper to provide him some rest after a busy two-month workload. Faf du Plessis participated in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings, before playing the T20I series.

Faf du Plessis had a good campaign against England in the T20I series. He has smashed 121 runs in three matches, including two half-centuries. His highest score in the series is 58 in the first T20I. Apart from du Plessis, CSA has also released Kagiso Rabada, Bjorn Fortuin, Pite van Biljon, and Reeza Hendricks from the squad for various reasons.

CSA official statement gives the details

In an official statement, the CSA has explained and informed about their decision to release their players. As per the statement released by CSA, the board has released the players from the squad either to join their own franchise teams that carry on playing in the CSA Four-Day Domestic Series or for rest and recovery. The statement informs they have released Faf du Plessis for resting. CSA has released Kagiso Rabada for rehabilitation, recovery, and rest injuries. Pite van Biljon, Bjorn Fortuin, and Reeza Hendricks will return to the 4-day domestic series.

CSA had to rule out Rabada of the ODI series against England because of a right adductor strain, earlier this week. The board had confirmed that Rabada’s injury is expected to take approximately three weeks of healing time.

Meanwhile, South Africa will be looking to put up a good show in the upcoming ODIs after being whitewashed in the T20Is.
