Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has claimed that CSK should start looking for MS Dhoni's replacement. The veteran reckoned that they should build a team around all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Vaughan's remarks come after Jadeja turned the match in favour of CSK with the ball against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Chennai Super Kings registered their worst ever Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign in the UAE last year.
MS Dhoni and the team failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in the tournament's history. The yellow brigade finished seventh on the points table after managing just 14 points from 14 games. However, MS Dhoni & Co have bounced back more vigorous and had a great start this season.
Jadeja's mindset as a cricketer can allow CSK to build the team around him: Vaughan
According to Michael Vaughan, MS Dhoni is not likely to continue playing after two or three years. The CSK captain is anticipated to retire after the end of the IPL 2021. However, the franchise CEO had reportedly disclosed that Dhoni could continue in the leadership role for the next IPL season as well. Vaughan further said that Jadeja's mindset as a cricketer could allow CSK to build the team around him. He also stated that his game in all three formats of the game is quite good. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been an essential part of the CSK set-up since 2012. In the recent match against Rajasthan Royals, the southpaw took four catches. He also turned the game as he picked up two crucial wickets of Jos Buttler and Shivam Dube.
The former cricketer also indicated that there are talks that Chennai Super Kings could look to build their team around Sam Curran. England all-rounder Sam Curran has been a consistent performer for the yellow army ever since he came into the team in IPL 2020. Vaughan commended the youngster and reckoned that he is still young and may not be ready for the role. He further added that he can take the challenge maybe four or five years from now. With the return of Suresh Raina and the addition of Moeen Ali, Chennai has managed to win two matches in their first three games of the season. They are currently placed in second place on the points table.
