CSK will continue to back Ruturaj Gaikwad: Stephen Fleming

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming stated that CSK would continue to back young batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. The young opening batsman has failed to perform in the first two games that the team has played so far in the new season. Since the inaugural season, Fleming has been associated with the Yellow Army. He also pointed out that the 3-time champions have always believed in backing their players. Ruturaj Gaikwad made headlines in the IPL with his performances at the top of the order last season after replacing senior batsman Shane Watson. Gaikwad scored 204 runs in 6 IPL games. This also included three fifties.

Ruturaj-Gaikwad

The 24-year-old proved his worth when the team was going through a tough patch in the UAE. Ruturaj showcased his class with stroke-filled knocks in IPL 2020. Due to his brilliant performance with the bat, he was eventually retained by CSK in the mini-auction in February. However, the 24-year-old opening batsman from Pune headed into the new IPL season without a lot of runs under his belt.

Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi is released from quarantine: Stephen Fleming

Gaikwad scored a century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but his form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was not at all impressive. He could just score 94 runs in 5 matches. After getting out for an 8-ball 5 in CSK’s opening match against Delhi Capitals, Gaikwad once again struggled against Punjab Kings. He had no momentum to his innings and eventually got out for five from 16 balls.

Chennai had put up a dominant show against Punjab Kings on Friday. After restricting the KL Rahul-led franchise to a paltry total of 106 for 8, they chased down the target with 26 balls and six wickets to spare. Coach Stephen Fleming added that the playing eleven is going to depend on the conditions, which are not straightforward. Stephen Fleming also declared that Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi is released from quarantine. His return will bolster Chennai Super Kings as they still might need an express pace bowler. MS Dhoni’s team will next challenge the Rajasthan Royals on Monday at the same venue. CSK registered their first victory in IPL 2021 on Friday after Delhi Capitals defeated them by seven wickets in their tournament opener.
