Cricket South Africa (CSA) omitted the names of Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir in their congratulatory post for CSK, who lifted their fourth IPL trophy on Friday, October 15. CSA took to their official Instagram and tagged CSK speedster Lungi Ngidi but did not mention Faf and Imran Tahir, who were also part of the squad. “Congratulations @lungingidi on claiming the 2021 IPL with Chennai Super Kings”, read the caption.
The board, however, deleted the post after they received a lot of criticism over it. The post received a reply from du Plessis wherein he seemed to be surprised as he commented “Really??.” The former South African pacer Dale Steyn also took a dig on CSA for ignoring Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir in the post. Questioning the absence of the names, he wrote: “Who’s running this account? Last I checked Faf isn’t even retired, Imran isn’t retired, both these guys have given years of service to CSA and they are not worth a mention? Disgusting.”
Faf du Plessis has been one of the strongest links of CSK’s chain. In the finals as well, the Proteas batter exuded his flair to play belligerent innings of 86 runs. Overall, he was the second-highest run-getter of the tournament with 633 runs.
Steyn then reacted to the incident on his official Twitter account. He posted two Tweets wherein he wrote: “CSA opening a can of worms for themselves with their Twitter and Instagram. Whoever’s running those accounts needs a talking too.”
“CSA now blocked the comments section. Here’s some advice. Do the right thing. Delete the post and add all the men involved, save yourself the embarrassment and ridicule.”
Despite Faf's magnificent form, he was not selected in the South Africa squad for the International T20 Cup.
