Former Pakistan spinner, Danish Kaneria, recently, hailed Virat Kohli for his outstanding performance in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He stated that the fans and critics singled him out after India were knocked out of the 20-20 World Cup last year. However, despite that, Kohli didn’t give up and made a remarkable comeback in white-ball cricket.
“When it comes to being selfless, there is no one like Virat Kohli. The team lost the World Cup under his captaincy, and he was made the scapegoat after that. Many raised questions about his place in the team. But he didn’t give up.
He gave his full support to the new captain and played at the number he asked him to.”
He then compared Babar Azam with Virat Kohli and labeled the former as ‘Stubborn’. Kaneria feels that the Pakistan skipper can’t bat in the middle order and his slow starts in the powerplay are doing more harm than good to the team.
“Babar Azam has been stubborn about not giving up his opening spot. The same happened when he was with Karachi Kings too. He is adamant about this because he cannot bat in the middle order. His stubbornness is only doing harm to Pakistani cricket because of the slow starts.”
Virat Kohli finished the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as the highest run-scorer in the tournament. In 6 matches, he managed to score 296 runs at an average of 98.67. On the other hand, Babar Azam didn’t have the greatest of the tournaments with the bat. In 7 matches, he amassed 124 runs at a strike rate of 93.23.
Despite his poor returns, Pakistan managed to reach the final of the tournament. Unfortunately, they couldn’t cross the final hurdle as England beat them by 5 wickets in the final. India’s campaign, on the other hand, ended with a 10-wicket defeat against England in the semi-final.
