The veteran Aussie southpaw David Warner didn’t have an expected outing in his first match as captain for Delhi in the Indian T20 League 2023. Delhi lost by a big margin of 50 runs against Lucknow in their campaign opener at the AB Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Batting first, KL Rahul’s men posted a total of 193 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. But Delhi failed to cross the line and could score only 143 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the entire 20 overs.

Later on, during the post-match presentation, Delhi skipper David Warner happened to be in a hilarious conversation with commentator and former legendary Indian skipper, Sunil Gavaskar. The latter happened to give a call-back to Warner regarding his last visit in Delhi the reply to which, the Aussie batter was left speechless. Although it was Simon Doull who ended up the conversation with a funny remark in the end.

Here's how the conversation happened between Sunil Gavaskar and David Warner:

Warner: "We go back to Delhi in front of our home crowd. I know it's a batting wicket. The last time, I was there in Delhi back in 2011, it was low and slow. Now I saw a bit of green grass on that surface. There will be a bit of dew in the night. If we can get an all-round good wicket, it would be fantastic."

Gavaskar: "David last time you were there in Delhi in 2011-12? You were there last month!"

Warner: "Yeah, I know that. That was a different pitch, it was a red ball. Let's forget that."

Eventually, Simon Doull intervened and said, “Sunny is being cheeky here,” to end the conversation.

Speaking of the match, the star England pacer Mark Wood won ‘the player of the match award for his match-defining performance in favor of Delhi; he scalped 5 wickets conceding only 14 runs in his quota of four overs.
