‘Dear red ball, please give me…’ - Jaydev Unadkat’s old tweet resurfaces after his reported selection for Bangladesh Tests

Team India are currently busy playing the three-match ODI series in Bangladesh. Followed by that, they will play a two-match Test series. However, Rohit Sharma got injured in the second match and now, as per reports, he is most likely to miss the Test series. Along with him, Mohammed Shami is also going to miss the series. 

So, now reports have come out that Jaydev Unadkat is going to replace Shami in the Test squad. There, he will make a comeback to the Indian Test team after a long gap of 12 years. After such reports, an old tweet of Jaydev Unadkat has now gone viral where he was seen pleading for another chance to play Test cricket.

Jaydev Unadkat won the Ranji Trophy for the first time for Saurashtra in the 2019-20 season

Speaking about the tweet, he shared an image of a red ball with a caption: “Dear red ball, please give me one more chance.. I’ll make you proud, promise!” Jaydev Unadkat shared the tweet on 4 January 2022. Recently, he led Saurashtra to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title. But, in the longest format of the game, his form has been immense in the last few years.

Jaydev Unadkat won the Ranji Trophy for the first time for Saurashtra in the 2019-20 season. In that season, he took 67 wickets. Unadkat has taken 115 wickets in the last three seasons at an average of 16.03. Speaking about Unadkat’s international career, he was last part of the Indian squad during the 2019 Nidahas Trophy. As of now, he has played 18 matches across all three formats.

In those matches, he managed only 22 wickets. Jaydev Unadkat made his Test debut for India against the Proteas at Centurion on 16 December 2010. In that match, he failed to take a single wicket as Unadkat conceded 101 runs in 26 overs. So, in this upcoming series, he will look to leave an impression on team India in the longest format of the game.
