Deep Dasgupta stated that it is unlikely that Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will play together in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The ICC T20 World Cup is set to take place in UAE from October 17. The former Indian wicket-keeper batsman believes Rahul Chahar might be selected ahead of both players.
For the last few years, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been India's go-to spinners in the white-ball format. However, the duo has delivered below-par performances in the recent past. Yuzvendra Chahal managed to pick up only nine wickets in his past ten games, while Kuldeep has featured in just four games in the game's shortest format for the past two years. Kuldeep and Chahal haven't been seen playing together in the line-up, both in ODIs and T20Is.
A lot will depend on the Sri Lanka series and IPL: Deep Dasgupta
Although the Indian cricket team will be facing a lowly-ranked Sri Lanka at home, both Chahal and Kuldeep will be well aware of the need to create a stronger impact. Talking about Chahal's form in the first phase of IPL 14, the RCB spinner claimed just 4 wickets from 7 games. On the other end, Kuldeep Yadav failed to get a single match for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The spin duo has lost out on the form and the trust of the team management, both in the national team and their respective IPL franchises. Hence, they will have to fight and cement their positions in the SL tour and final phase of IPL 2021. The second phase of the Indian Premier League will take place in the UAE from September 19-October 15.
Meanwhile, the ICC T20 World Cup was eventually planned to be played last year in Australia. However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the competition was postponed. ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is the seventh edition of the tournament. West Indies are the defending champions of ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
