Deep Dasgupta reflects on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s low ICC knockout scores

Deep Dasgupta has stated that it would be important for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to perform well in the World Test Championship final. In recent years, both the players had not performed well in the ICC Knockout games. Both of them had been dismissed without reaching double-digit in the 2017 championship final and 2019 World Cup Semifinal.

Team India has failed to win a single ICC event since the Championship trophy win in 2013. It was under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. After that, the team had gone down at various stages of ICC events. The events include the 2015 and 2019 world cup semi-final and the 2017 champions trophy final.

The former wicketkeeper opined that the games need to be looked at individually. Factors that led to the teams' failure also need to be looked at individually. Various factors led to the loss in different games. India should have won the 2019 championship trophy but we did not. The 2017 final against Pakistan was also an unfortunate loss. The no-ball did play a factor in that match but it is no important anymore. The toss played a crucial role in the West Indies Wankhede match.

There is a reason behind every match and that needs to be looked into

Deep Dasgupta further stated that the team India is overthinking and putting too much pressure on themselves before the important games. The fact of the situation is that team India has not won a single game since 2013. There is most probably no particular reason behind that apart from the obvious. It is highly likely that maybe the Indian team is taking too much pressure on themselves. They are overthinking their strengths and tactics because it is a big ICC tournament.

India will play against New Zealand in the world Test Championship final. The final is scheduled to be held in Southampton. It will start on the 18th of June. This is the first season of the World Test Championship. The winning team would be the first winners of that trophy. This is one of the most important matches in the history of team India.
