Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar praised MS Dhoni for helping him become a more responsible player. Over the years, MS Dhoni has guided a lot of young players in the Indian cricket team. This includes players like Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. The former Indian skipper is always accurate with his observations and suggestions. This has helped several players to perform well.
Deepak Chahar is one of the crucial members of the Chennai Super Kings squad. His scalps in the powerplay have always given the yellow army an upper hand. After a poor outing in IPL 2020 in UAE, the right-arm seamer bounced back in style in 2021. The youngster picked regular wickets in the powerplay and also changed games with his deceptive swing bowling. Deepak Chahar’s best spell in the 14th IPL season was undoubtedly the one against Punjab Kings. In that match, he picked up four wickets in the first six overs to keep Punjab Kings below 130.
MS Dhoni has helped me grow as a bowler: Deepak Chahar
The 28-year-old pacer also explained how Dhoni’s support has been instrumental in the development of his abilities. Deepak Chahar further added that playing under MS Dhoni has not only helped him grow as a bowler but also praised the former team India skipper for teaching him to accept responsibilities in a better way. A few weeks ago, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav also disclosed how MS Dhoni’s advice and strategy helped the spinner take wickets regularly.
Considering the Indian cricket team for the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka is yet to be declared, there are high chances that Chahar is regarded as one of the picks for the tour. The pacer might also be allowed to lead the pace unit in the absence of regular bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Deepak Chahar made his ODI debut in September 2018. Since then, the 28-year-old has only three ODIs. As far as the shortest format of the games is concerned, Chahar has featured in only 13 games for India. Talking about IPL, Deepak Chahar has featured in 55 matches. He has scalped 53 wickets at a decent economy of 7.67. Chennai Super Kings were placed at the second position in the now-suspended IPL 2021. They have five wins from 7 games.
