In a thrilling encounter between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday, LSG emerged victorious by 7 wickets in the 58th match of IPL 2023, held at SRH's home ground. However, the game was marred by a controversial incident and subsequent repercussions.
During SRH's batting in the first innings, the match came to an abrupt halt due to the unruly behavior of some SRH fans. This interruption was triggered by a poor 'no-ball' DRS call by on-field umpire Akshay Totre and TV umpire Yeshwant Barde. Avesh Khan had seemingly bowled a beamer to Abdul Samad, but Totre did not declare it a no-ball. SRH decided to review the decision, only to be dismayed as Barde upheld the original call in favor of the bowling team.
Expressing his anger, SRH star player Heinrich Klaasen engaged in a heated conversation with the umpires. At the same time, LSG head coach Andy Flower, mentor Gautam Gambhir, and others in the dug-out stood inside the boundary rope, pointing towards the stands behind them. It appeared that an object had been thrown from the crowd, accompanied by chants of "Kohli Kohli" to provoke Gambhir.
Showed his disappointment with the crowd as well
When the match resumed, Klaasen, visibly affected by the unwanted interruption, lost his concentration and was caught at long-on. In a post-innings interview, Klaasen didn't hold back his disappointment, saying, "Disappointed with the crowd, to be honest, that's not what you want. That also broke the momentum, not great umpiring either." He also expressed his frustration with the changing wicket conditions, mentioning the spin and bounce, and how it affected the game.
Furthermore, SRH's Amit Mishra faced consequences for his actions during the match. Mishra was reprimanded for breaching the IPL's Code of Conduct, admitting to a level 1 offense under Article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of equipment. The IPL stated that Mishra accepted the sanction.
In a release, the IPL addressed Klaasen's conduct, stating that he admitted to a Level 1 Offense under Article 2.7, which deals with the use of public criticism or inappropriate comments in the IPL's Code of Conduct.
The incident highlighted the need for maintaining discipline and respect within the game, both on and off the field. It served as a reminder of the consequences players and fans face for breaching the IPL's Code of Conduct and the impact such incidents can have on the flow and outcome of a match.
Here's how Twitter reacted to Heinrich Klaasen's comments on bad umpiring in SRH vs LSG match:

Klaasen statement was absolutely true.
Even umpires should be fined for poor umpiring.

This is a problem with every sport. Players cannot speak about the refereeing/umpiring. They are extremely protected. They get away with a lot. They should mic up the refs/umps.

Baigan ka code of conduct…fine the umpires for making those decisions
