In the latest addition to the Indian T20 League, Priyank Panchal is set to join the Gujarat camp as their backup player. He is the state captain of the Gujarat team in the Ranji Trophy. The team is looking to have reliable players around them at the start of their maiden ITL season.
Things have been moving at a quick pace for the young batter. He was selected as the captain of the India A team against South Africa A. Later on, he was awarded a spot in the Indian team as a replacement for injured Rohit Sharma.
Sportskeeda broke the news of his likely participation in the Gujarat team. Panchal previously told them that while he did not make the Test team's playing XI, he learned a lot by sharing the dressing room with players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul.
The Gujarat team has been bolstering their net bowling and expanding their lineup. Aside from Panchal, who is expected to join them as a backup player, Mohit Sharma, a previous purple cap holder in the ITL and a member of the India team at the 2015 World Cup, has also joined them as a net bowler. Barinder Sran, another India pacer, has also joined the team.
In other news for them, captain Hardik Pandya has been given a green flag by the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore. He might be seen bowling in the 2022 season and the national selectors will have an eye on him.
The ITL is set to start on the 26th of March, with Chennai taking on Kolkata in the season opener. The Gujarat team will begin their campaign against another new team, Lucknow on the 28th of March.
