Pakistan has met a huge blow ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 as they will miss out on the services from Shaheen Afridi. The pace spearhead has been ruled out of the mega event in the UAE due to a knee injury. The cricket board of Pakistan revealed the shocking news in its statement and said that the pacer is being monitored.

The 22-year-old was the most anticipated bowler and his growth over the years has been stupendous. Pakistan is known for sheer pace and the youngster justified the statement. However, young blood had to face an injury while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. This piece of news has shattered the hopes of Pakistani fans who awaited the arrival of their pace king in Dubai.

The statement said that the pacer has been ruled out of the UAE event and will also miss out on the T20I series against England. Pakistan Cricket Board's chief medical officer said that the youngster will return to competitive cricket in October. This means that the 22-year-old will feature in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

The statement concluded by quoting Dr Najeebullah Soomro, the chief medical officer as saying that Shaheen Afridi is in constant touch with individual specialists. He added that the player made great progress during Rehabilitation in Rotterdam. He added that the pacer needs more time to get back to fitness.

“I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October," Dr Soomro said.

“PCB’s Sports & Exercise Medicine Department will be working closely with the player over the coming weeks to ensure his safe return to competitive cricket," he concluded.

The huge blow will be difficult for Pakistan to cope up on.
