The IPL 2020 was another season to cherish for the Mumbai Indians fans. The defending champions won their 5th title. They are the only team apart from CSK to successfully defend the IPL title.
With MI fans overwhelmed by victory, it was yet another season to forget for the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans. The team marshaled by Indian skipper Virat Kohli missed out on the trophy yet again, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A glimmer of hope amongst this disappointment came in the form of Devdutt Padikkal. With the likes of Kohli and De Villiers in your team, it is extremely challenging to get all the limelight. However, the 20-year-old was not one to back down from challenges. The youngster shocked the nation when he finished as the leading scorer in the team, beating Kohli and De Villiers in the process.
With 473 runs to his name in just 15 games, Padikkal was clearly the standout performer of this RCB side. He also hit 5 half-centuries this season, the most by an uncapped player this season.
Due to his exemplary batting performance throughout the season, Padikkal was awarded the Emerging Player of the Season.
Who was the most difficult bowler Padikkal faced?
Even though Padikkal sent most of the bowlers to the cleaners, one among them bugged him throughout the season. Padikkal was recently asked whether it was difficult to play against the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Jasprit Bumrah, or Trent Boult.
To everyone’s surprise, Padikkal revealed that Rashid Khan was the most challenging bowler he faced in IPL 2020. The Afghanistani ace ran riot this season, picking up 20 wickets in just 16 matches. An economy of just 6.24 shows how invaluable an asset he is for any team he plays for.
He also stated that there are some quite fantastic bowlers with incredible pace. However, the 20-year-old said that pace was not something that bothers him. Spin bowling has bothered him since he is not accustomed to it. Rashid Khan is an excellent spinner of the ball and has a decent pace. These factors contribute to him being very difficult to play against.
Despite displaying a fantastic performance overall, Padikkal failed to book a spot for the Indian T20I team. He believes that this is going to be a long journey and he is ready to cover it. He is confident that someday he will make it to the Indian National Cricket team squad.
