Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman stated that AB de Villiers and Shikhar Dhawan have been outstanding in the ongoing 14th IPL season. The veteran believes that opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan’s batting exploits with Delhi Capitals (DC) remind him of the left-hander’s Under-19 days. He further added that he used to be aggressive and fearless.

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman stated that AB de Villiers and Shikhar Dhawan have been outstanding in the ongoing 14th IPL season. The veteran believes that opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan’s batting exploits with Delhi Capitals (DC) remind him of the left-hander’s Under-19 days. He added that he used to be aggressive and fearless.

AB De Villiers and Shikhar Dhawan are currently the top two run-scorers in IPL 2021. Shikhar Dhawan currently holds the Orange Cap in IPL 2021. He has scored 186 runs from three games at an average of 62 and a strike rate of 163.2. The India opening batsman was awarded the Player of the Match in both the matches DC have won this season. Despite a healthy competition for places in the Indian T20I squad, Shikhar Dhawan has made a strong claim for the opener’s slot for the forthcoming T20 World Cup scheduled later this year in India.

On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore star batsman is fifth in the list with 125 runs so far. The 37-year-old has scored 125 runs in the first three matches and has a strike rate of 189.39. It is the best among the top 10 run-getters in the league so far. Notably, no other player has struck at even 180; forget coming close to him. VVS Laxman has been astonished by ABD’s exploits. The former stated that the RCB wicket-keeper batsman has the ability to surprise even when you think you have seen it all.

Shikhar Dhawan records and stats

Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer in the 2004 Under-19 World Cup and the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy tournaments. The southpaw holds the record for the fastest batsman to reach 1000 runs in ICC ODI tournaments. At the 2015 World Cup, he was the leading run-scorer for the country and, in the following year, became the fastest Indian batsman to accomplish 3,000 ODI runs. 

In December 2017, Dhawan became the 2nd fastest Indian batsman to reach 4000 ODI runs. The 35-year-old also holds the record for most runs in a calendar year in Twenty20 International cricket (689). He is known for his thriving and crucial knocks in ICC Tournaments. Talking about his international career, he has played 139 ODIs, 65 T20Is and 34 Test matches for the nation with a combined return of 9796 runs.
