Australia’s preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 are looking in jeopardy as they are continuously facing injury hits just ahead of the marquee international tournament. Now, the star in-form opener Travis Head has joined the list of players who have been ruled out of the team due to their respective injuries of late. He sustained an injury during the recently concluded fourth ODI of the five-match series against South Africa.
It all happened with the Aussies before and around their ongoing South Africa tour to play the five-match ODI series before travelling to India for the three-match ODI series ahead of the World Cup. Earlier, some of the big names were already ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa.
The list included the names of skipper Pat Cummins, former skipper Steve Smith, veteran pacer Mitchell Starc, alongside star all-rounders, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green. The increasing list of injured players has also been one of the prime reasons for Aussie management’s headache just before the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup, in India.
One of the major concerns for the Australian team is the availability of the players for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India before the World Cup. The updates on the intensity of the injuries of senior players, including the likes of Smith and Starc are still unknown.
The five-time World Champions will start their run in the tournament with their campaign opener against the hosts and two-time champions, India. It will be the first match for both the teams in ODI World Cup 2023, which will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8.
