On 10 November 2022, the ongoing 20-20 World Cup journey got ended for team India. They lost their semi-final clash against England in Adelaide. Pakistan already qualified for the final by defeating the Kiwis on 9 November. So, fans were waiting to see another mega clash between two arch-rivals on 13 November.

But, the Men in Blue failed to fulfill the wish of their fans. Rohit Sharma and his men failed miserably as England thrashed them by 10 wickets. It was a heartbreaking moment for the Indian players and fans. This defeat was another semi-final loss for India in the last nine years. Since 2013, team India managed to qualify for the semi-finals or finals of the major tournament except in the 20-20 World Cup, 2021. But, they have failed to grab the silverware.

India are the most under-performing white-ball team in history." - Michael Vaughan

After that loss, the former England skipper, Michael Vaughan claimed team India as the most under-performing white-ball team in history. In his column for The Telegraph, Michael Vaughan wrote: "Since winning 50 over World Cup what have they done? Nothing. India are playing a white-ball game that is dated and have done for years. India are the most under-performing white-ball team in history. Every player in the world who goes to the Indian T20 League says how it improves their game but what have India ever delivered?” He also drew criticism about India’s playing approach in the World Cup.

"I am just staggered by how they play T20 cricket for the talent they have. They have the players, but just do not have the right process in place. They have to go for it. Why do they give the opposition bowlers the first five overs to bed in?" Vaughan added. Since 2013, team India have played one final (2014) and semi-final (2016) in the 20-20 World Cup. they also played two semi-finals (2015 & 2019) in the 50-over format World Cup. In 2017, India played the final of the Champions Trophy. In 2021, India departed from the 20-20 World Cup after the group stage only. But, their record of winning bi-lateral series have been phenomenal all these years. Even, before this World Cup, India defeated England in England in both the three-match T20I and ODI series. So, such a comment from Michael Vaughn did not go well with the Indian fans.
