Dinesh Kaneria feels that Sanju Samson should lead India against Sri Lanka

Former Pakistani cricketer Dinesh Kaneria feels that Sanju Samson should lead India ahead of their tour of Sri Lanka. Sanju Samson was the captain of the RR side in the IPL this year. Kaneria stated that this could be a perfect opportunity for Samson to showcase his ability as a captain in the international format. With quite a few first-choice Indian players set to skip the tour of Sri Lanka, Kaneria feels that younger players deserve a chance to showcase their talent.

Samson was brilliant for RR in the IPL this year. In 7 matches for RR in IPL 2021, Samson racked up an impressive 277 runs in total. The 26-year-old also notched a superb century against PBKS in the IPL this year. However, Sanju Samson has failed to replicate a similar performance in the international format. In 7 T20Is in his T20I career, Samson only managed to amass a meager 7 runs in total. His dismal batting average of 11.8 in the T20I format clearly highlights his ineffectiveness with the bat in that format.

Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead India ahead of the tour of Sri Lanka - Dinesh Kaneria

As per Dinesh Kaneria, Sanju Samson and Shikhar Dhawan are the 2 potential candidates to captain India against Sri Lanka. Kaneria stated that Shikhar Dhawan has the upper hand owing to his seniority amongst other players in the team. However, Kaneria feels that India should assign captaincy to a younger player who could lead the team in the future. Hence, Kaneria believes that Sanju Samson is the better alternative compared to Shikhar Dhawan.

Although Dinesh Kaneria feels that Samson deserves to lead India against Sri Lanka, he believes that Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian side which is set to face Sri Lanka. The former Pakistani cricketer stated that India should prepare themselves in case Kolhi steps down as captain. Hence, Kaneria stated that India should groom Sanju Samson to be their next leader in the future.
