The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is set to begin on October 17 in Oman and UAE. With less than three months left for the marquee event, several experts have donned the predictor’s hat and have made some bold predictions about the title contenders.
Last month, ICC had announced the groups for the T20 World Cup, pitting India and Pakistan in the same group and now they have rolled out the itinerary for the global event. The main league of the tournament will kick off with a match between Australia and South Africa on October 23. England and West Indies will cross swords in the second game of the day in Dubai. The iconic clash between India and Pakistan will take place on October 24. Speaking about the favourites of the tournament, Isa Guha, Dinesh Karthik, and Darren Sammy were seen discussing their picks.
West Indies are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup and undoubtedly start as favourites in this edition owing to their fascination for the shortest format. Naturally, Sammy has backed the Caribbean team to win the treble in the UAE. Initially, he avoided the question from Guha and dodged it by saying “I am more interested in who is going to be the player of the tournament. Someone like Russell who bowls and bats and comes in at crucial times,” said Sammy.
When Guha asked Sammy to pick the winner, he said, “It’s a no-brainer for me, West Indies.” Meanwhile, Karthik wants India and West Indies final.
“I would love to see India and West indies final. I think my second favorite team after India would definitely be West Indies, only for the way they play cricket. I think this format they love it brings out their best in them and, I would love to see West Indies in the final. Whether I want them to win it that will depend on the opponent that day,” Karthik said.
