On Monday, the Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders at a margin of 82 runs. They have registered their fifth win at the IPL 2020. RCB leaped to take the third spot, crossing KKR in the points table after the win. Commenting on the loss, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik, admitted that he doesn’t want to read too much about the loss.
RCB had given KKR the target of 195 to chase, which appeared as a mammoth total for the Knight Riders. KKR finished on 112 for 9. Shubman Gill along with Tom Banton, who made his IPL debut, failed to provide a quick start to their team. The two-time champion suffered a collapse and was reduced to 64 for 5 from 51 for 1 wicket.
KKR kept losing wickets during the match and finally finished their innings on 112/9. Gill became the top-scorer for the side with 34 runs. For RCB, Washington Sundar and Chris Morris took two wickets each.
Dinesh Karthik showered praises on de Villiers
Batting first, RCB piled up a huge total of 194 for 2 in 20 overs on the scoreboard. The credit goes to the swift knock of AB de Villiers. RCB openers Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch made a stand of 67 runs for the first wicket and gave a good start to the team. Padikkal was sent away at 32, while Finch scored 47 before he was dismissed. Next, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers joined hands and shared an unbeaten stand of 100 runs. De Villiers smashed 73 off just 33 deliveries while Kohli stayed unbeaten on 33 off 28 deliveries.
Interacting with the media, the losing team captain Dinesh Karthik showered praises on de Villiers. He said that the South African was the difference between the two teams. The KKR captain further insisted that he is not reading too much into the defeat.
“He (de Villiers) is a world-class player and hard to stop him on a ground like this and at the end of the day his innings was the difference between both sides. We need to sit down and make sure there are new things we need to do better,”.
said Dinesh Karthik.
“Batting is one area we didn’t do well today and that’s something we gonna try and improve. We have three days break and we need to start fresh after that. It’s been an interesting IPL so far as a lot of teams are comfortable batting first. I think every captain has a day like this where everything doesn’t go according to plan and it’s one of those days for me, I don’t want to read too much into it,”.
he added.
