The most-awaited event of the year, the ICC WTC final, is set to commence on June 18 at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton. India and New Zealand will face each other in the ICC World Test Championship summit clash. Team India has been performing brilliantly in the Tests lately and will also be favorites to win the WTC final. When Kohli and the team would be playing the series, Sunil Gavaskar and Dinesh Karthik will serve with the microphone in hand.
The two Indian batsmen have been reportedly roped in as commentators for the WTC final. Notably, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is finding it difficult to rope in commentators for the WTC final. This is due to the strict protocols and 10-day quarantine period for overseas professionals. As a result, many Indian and New Zealand cricket commentators have refused to commentate on the crucial game.
Dinesh Karthik a part of the Sky Sports commentary panel for The Hundred
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik and former batsman Sunil Gavaskar is the only Indians set to join the on-ground panel for the summit clash. The duo will be accompanied by New Zealand’s Simon Doull and two other commentators, England’s Mike Atherton and Nasser Hussain.
Considering Gavaskar is not new to the commentary role, Karthik is still an active player, and is taking further steps in the commentary arena. The wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is also a part of the Sky Sports commentary panel for The Hundred. The batsman made a significant announcement regarding his plans for the 2021 summer. While the player remains an active cricket player, he is prepared to take up a commentary role in a highly anticipated cricket tournament. The talented wicketkeeper-batsman will be seen commentating in the inaugural season of The Hundred in England. This also means Dinesh Karthik will not be a part of India’s limited-overs squad traveling to Sri Lanka in July. Instead, India is set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Meanwhile, Team India, which is presently in Mumbai serving isolation, will fly to England on June 2. However, the entire Indian contingent will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period. Hence, the team is not likely to get much time for preparation. On the other hand, NZ will face England in two Tests before the WTC final.
